OFFERS are being tabled from Hong Kong clients to purchase Queensland Derby winner Mr Quickie but champion trainer and co-owner Peter Moody says there are no plans to offload the talented three-year-old just yet.

Moody, who races Mr Quickie with a number of connections, said offers had been received earlier in the preparation and it was only natural that they would intensify given the recent record of Queensland Derby winners in Hong Kong.

“The horse is going to the paddock, he is going to enjoy a nice rest up in Queensland and we will enjoy the win,” Moody said.

“Of course there have been offers, a horse with a profile like his is obviously what people are after but we haven’t really entertained it at this stage.

“We will sit down in a couple of weeks and have a chat about what the spring looks like with him.”

Moody said he was hopeful that Mr Quickie could continue to improve as a spring four-year-old but stopped short of declaring he would be targeted towards the elite Cups.

“I’m not going to suggest we are going to target the Caulfield Cup or anything like that, my opinion is that there is plenty of money around for the lower level feature races and let the horse tell us if he is up to anything stronger,” he said.

“He has come a long way in a short space of time and who knows he could keep improving, but he is going to need to keep improving, you’ve got to be realistic, there is a big gap between a Queensland winter and the top-level spring carnival staying races.”
